Old heroes, new combination! Once more, after our James Din A4 Best Of, we've had the honour to rummage through the archives of long-admired musicians – again, artists who had been a source of inspiration for us when we founded Pingipung, for their peculiar pop sounds and the way they ran their own label, aiming for something else but mere profitability. Diving for pearls in Hey-O-Hansen’s ocean of sound was no trivial exercise. That wasn't for a lack of shimmer and shine, on the contrary: the amount of hits in their oeuvre is outstanding. But the recordings of this Berlin / Austria based band are difficult to survey, as they reach back to 8-track-sessions from the mid-90s and have sometimes been put out on uncommon formats such as cassette tapes or very limited vinyl singles. The effort was worth it: "Sonn und Mond. Rare and Unreleased Austrodub Tracks 1995-2009" is a gala-revue of the very special Hey-O-Hansen mélange of Lo-fi-attitude and Hi-end studio skills, of sampling and live instruments, of ethereal dub and urban chanson. Our compilation manages to provide an excellent introduction to the band’s cosmos as well as a source of novelty for old fans. Featuring guest appearances of Dirk von Lowtzow (vocals), Simonetta Ginelli (harp) and Kazumi (vocals).
