The man behind the project with the strangely playful name is cellist and drummer Andreas Otto. Springintgut has been releasing vivid, melodic Electronica, first with us, meanwhile on City Centre Offices in Berlin. As a trained musician in classical and jazz music, Otto was feeling uncomfortable about the limited means of live performance and improvisation when getting into electronic music. He is always seeking for new ways to generate sounds and structures directly, in the studio or on stage. His first shows featured a self-built drumkit with books and contact mics. Nowadays he performs with "Fello", his own instrument which combines the cello and the computer with sensors on the bow. The "Fello" developments have been supported by STEIM in Amsterdam.
Apart from film and theatre scores and remixes for Schlammpeitziger and others, Otto plays live concerts accompanying classic silent movies such as "Metropolis", "The Last Laugh" or "Strike", in collaboration with Jan Drees on guitars. Springintgut has also contributed beautiful tracks to our compilations Kami Eins, Pingipung plays: the Piano and Pingipung blows: the Brass.
